Kentucky: General Dynamics Information Technology to Expand

12 Jul, 2013

General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), plans to create up to 1,300 new jobs at facilities in London and Winchester, and make significant investments at both facilities.

General Dynamics Information Technology provides information technology (IT), systems engineering, professional services and simulation and training to customers in the defense, federal civilian government, health, homeland security, intelligence, state and local government and commercial sectors. With approximately 21,000 professionals worldwide, the company delivers IT enterprise solutions, manages large-scale, mission-critical IT programs and provides mission support services.

Both new facilities in Kentucky will provide technical assistance for the technical implementation of the federal government’s health insurance marketplace. The London site is expected to employ up to 1,000 people. The site in Winchester should employee approximately 300 employees. The company also has approximately 400 employees at an existing facility in Corbin.

To encourage the investment and job creation in London and Winchester, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved Vangent, which was acquired by General Dynamics in October 2011, for tax incentives up to $11.5 million through the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based incentive allows a company to keep a portion of its investment over the term of the agreement through corporate income tax credits and wage assessments by meeting job and investment targets.
