Battery Manufacturing Research Center Opens In Lexington
31 Oct, 2012
The Kentucky-Argonne Battery Manufacturing Research and Development Center is now open at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. A portion of the new Center for Applied Energy Research, a $20.7 million, 43,000-square-foot facility dedicated to the research and development of renewable energy and energy storage technologies, will house the center. The battery center is an open access battery manufacturing R&D facility, where industrial users can contract lab space and equipment to conduct research, or contract with the center’s experts to conduct research for them. The center is one of the first federal battery manufacturing labs in the United States. One company, nGimat Co., based in Atlanta, has opened a facility in Lexington to better access the expertise and resources at the battery center. The company develops advanced lithium titanate energy storage materials for use in next-gen automotive batteries. For complete details, visit www.thinkkentucky.com.
