Food Manufacturing Activity in U.S. Metro Areas
14 Sep, 2014
Garner Economics LLC profiles patterns of food manufacturing firms, employment, and wages in the 372 U.S. metro areas.
The processing and manufacturing of food products is a critical component of the U.S. economy. Without these facilities, Americans would not be able to access the quality or variety of food that we have come to enjoy. As of 2013, there were 30,135 food manufacturing establishments (NAICS 311) in the United States, employing a total of 1.47 million workers. The average firm in this sector employs about 49 workers.
Because of the expertise Garner Economics has in site location analysis for the food and beverage sector (the company partners with Primus Builders in conducting site searches for Primus’s food and beverage clients), officials are often asked what areas have the most locations for food and beverage manufacturing companies and what type of economic impact does that sector provide those regions and communities.
As always, please feel free to contact Jay Garner if you have any question or comments related to this analysis.
