DUKE PLAZA AWARDED FACADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM REIMBURSEMENT FUNDING IN MARICOPA, ARIZONA

12 Feb, 2018

City of Maricopa’s Economic Development Department manages the Façade Improvement Program, designed to encourage residents and commercial property owners to improve the exterior façade of structures located in the Heritage District Redevelopment Area. Commercial property owners can receive up to 50% reimbursement for approved upgrades, residential property owners are eligible for up to 100% reimbursement. Currently the program offers $10,000 on a first come, first serve basis for pre-approved upgrades. The program was initiated in 2012 as a means to assist property owners in beautifying the Heritage District and encourage investment in the Redevelopment Area.

Owner Sean Katona purchased the retail center formerly known as Maricopa Manor, located at 19756 N. John Wayne Parkway, in September 2017. Shortly afterwards, Mr. Katona approached City Staff about the possibility of applying for reimbursement funding through the Façade Improvement Program for new paint for the retail center. The work was completed just prior to the grand re-opening of the newly renamed Duke Plaza on November 29, 2017. In accordance to program guidelines, Duke Plaza received $6,100, representing 50% of the total cost of repainting. Mr. Katona said “The Façade Improvement Program is a great resource for property owners. It has allowed me to reinvest the funds in additional improvements for Duke Plaza”.
