Clark County, Wis. Company Seeks to Revolutionize Omega-3s

Omega Valley Farmers LLC in Dorchester, Wis., announces the roll out of naturally processed dairy products that are high in Omega-3s.
Heartland Cooperative Services in Dorchester has introduced the new Omega-3 feeding concept to the ag marketplace. “We are now able to naturally increase the nutrient content of farm-raised dairy products such as milk, cheese, ice cream; as well as eggs, poultry, beef and pork products , with higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids,” says Dennis Schultz, CEO, Heartland Cooperative Services. He notes the higher nutrient levels of Omega-3s provide consumers with a clear choice in using a healthier food that supports AI (Adequate Intake) of Omega-3s in their diets.
Bringing together new opportunities to grow the county’s agriculture sector focuses on one goal: to sustain and grow the ag and dairy industries by creating positive economic opportunities.
The animal feed process is where it all beings. The efforts are the result of a 15-year collaboration between university supported research and development and the agri-business sector. Feeding animals Omega-3 rich diets makes them healthier, which in turn provides naturally enriched Omega-3 food products to the consumer’s table.
After two years of research and development, the Omega-3 enriched dairy products are being processed by Omega Valley Farmers LLC, under a new product line called “Healthier For You.” Schultz is the CEO of Omega Valley Farmers.
The company feeds and raises its livestock under a farm certification program. This program tracks and verifies feeding reviews for Omega-3 nutrient supports; as well as tracks and verifies the overall health improvement in the animals. This in turn ensures the productions of higher Omega-3 nutrient content than conventional methods used in today’s farming practices.
Omega Valley Farmers decided cheese would be the obvious first product. The company will continue to expand its dairy products marketplace, and will begin introducing pork, beef, poultry and bakery items.
Collaboration efforts among the Clark County (Wis.) Economic Development Corp.’s Value Added Agriculture Consortium, Agriculture Omega Solutions LLC out of Milwaukee, and Heartland Cooperative Services began more than two years ago. Sheila Nyberg, executive director, Clark County Economic Development Corp., says bringing together new opportunities to grow the county’s agriculture sector focuses on one goal: to sustain and grow the ag and dairy industries by creating positive economic opportunities.
