The great state of Massachusetts is important to our nation in so many ways. It’s the birthplace of our freedom, the birthplace of our industrial revolution, home to four U.S. Presidents, home to the first subway system and the first basketball game.

It’s the birthplace of our freedom, the birthplace of our industrial revolution, home to four U.S. Presidents, home to the first subway system and the first basketball game. More recently Massachusetts’ Governor Charlie Baker filed an ambitious five-year economic development bill. The $610 million package includes $300 million for the MassWorks infrastructure program, matching what the Legislature approved as part of a 2016 economic development bill. An additional $100 million would support coastal communities, divided equally between support for saltwater dredging and the Seaport Economic Council, which would provide funding for community planning and investments that stimulate economic development and create jobs in the maritime economy. Other benefits include a program to provide incentives to businesses that occupy vacant downtown storefronts, and enable cities and towns to have easements outside their borders in order to access broadband networks. The bill would also create a permanent “sales tax holiday” – typically a weekend when consumers do not have to pay the sales tax on eligible purchases at Massachusetts businesses.* The state is home to some of the country’s largest and best known companies like Boston Scientific, Sam Adams, Bose Corporation, Gillette, Fidelity and many more. The state is also home to MIT, Harvard, Boston College, Tufts, Boston University and other high ranked institutions educating some of the brightest students in the world.

Chelmsford

The Town of Chelmsford’s Route 129 continues its transformation from a 1st generation 600 acre and 6 million sq. ft. suburban office park into a vibrant amenity rich mixed-use area. The adoption of the new zoning overlay in October 2016 facilitated the recent approval and construction of two private multi-family developments, totaling 276 rental units, and the introduction of the first retail / restaurant development consisting of 12,000 sq. ft. It is clear the real estate market has taken notice.

At a recent meeting in June 2018, the Chelmsford Economic Development Commission (EDC) provided a marketing and branding update to an audience of 90 industry professionals and stakeholders. The EDC defined the zoning transformation, encouraged partnerships with the town and identified added areas of opportunity. Further, the EDC working with marketing and branding consultant, Schneider Associates publicly unveiled the new name and logo, CHELMSFORD CROSSROADS at ROUTE 129.

The zoning overlay introduces new opportunities for comprehensive (re)development aimed at blending amenities such as restaurants, retail, indoor recreation, entertainment, hotels, and housing to foster a “live, work, and play” environment.

The new private development stimulated by the zoning, totaling $65 million, serves as a convincing proof statement and a clear market indicator that the zoning combined with other market drivers (7,500 day time employees within 275 businesses; excellent traffic counts; strong socio-economics and disposable incomes), is why the CHELMSFORD CROSSROADS at ROUTE 129 is a superb location to invest, develop and/or locate a business.
